State Oppression Against Women: BS 2026

This is an eye-opening discussion on the multiple contexts in which violence against women and girls is operating across Ireland both sides of the border.  It is starkly framed and summarised in its wider context by Farrah Koutteineh.  Farrah is founder of KEY48, voluntary collective calling for the immediate right of return of over 7.4 million Palestinian refugees. 

The discussion features contributions from Amie Gallagher, Coordinator of the Focus Project at Creggan Enterprises which supports women in working-class communities through community development, education, and advocacy rooted in lived experience.  We are also delighted to host a speaker from Dublin who is a member of Red Umbrella Éireann. Her identity remains anonymous here to help protect her against further harassment for the situation she and her fellow workers face, for having the courage to speak out.  Red Umbrella Éireann represents various organisations and movements advocating for sex workers’ rights, symbolised by the red umbrella used internationally for protection, visibility, and resistance against abuse/stigma.  Advocating for decriminalisation and human rights through solidarity and direct action, highlighting shared struggles.
