Bernadette Devlin-McAliskey – Bernadette is a woman who needs no introduction in Derry. Back in 1972 she was the elected representative of the people of Mid Tryrone at Westminster. She was also one of the original organisers of the march that Sunday and on the platform about to speak, when the shooting started. Bernadette is a life-long political organiser and activist with the ability to help us connect local issues to the outworking of its global context. And of course the reverse can be true too, as she demonstrates here in this speech where the simple act of making buns can be transformed into a global act of solidarity. And of course such actions don’t just change the world beyond our skins, they transform the baker and the organisers too. Onwards…
