Plé i nGaeilge le rogha Béarla / an Irish languagediscussion with an English language option

Úsáideann an gníomhaí teanga as Béal Feirste Fearghal Mac Ionnrachtaigh scríbhneoireacht réabhlóideach Frantz Fanon chun athbheochan na Gaeilge i dtuaisceart na hÉireann a chur i gcroílár phróiseas díchoilínithe leanúnaigh

Baineann an cur i láthair le céimeanna praiticiúla i dtreo an díchoilínithe ó dhearcadh pobail agus pearsanta – agus na eilimintí seo a leanas ag múnlú na pléite:

  • An comhthéacs coilíneachais in Éireann
  • Achoimre ar Fanon, agus tábhacht s’aige i dtaca le Éirinn de
  • Costas an choilíneachais – tionchar an choilíneachais ar an lucht coilínithe féin (ag cur lipéad ar an fhadhb)
  • Ag tarraingt ar athbheochan na Gaeilge i measc na cosmhuintire chun na rudaí seo a thuigbhéail – ó Ghaeltacht Bhóthar Seoighe go dtí An Dream Dearg via an Ghaelscolaíocht agus na príosúin pholaitiúla
Beidh an plé éarcaithe ag Daire Ní Chanáin, iriseoir agus craoltóir as chathair Dhoire.

Belfast language activist Fearghal Mac Ionnrachtaigh draws on the revolutionary writing of Frantz Fanon to place the Irish language revival in the north of Ireland at the centre of an ongoing decolonization process.

The focus of the talk is outlining practical steps towards decolonisation from a personal and community perspective – with the following elements shaping the discussion:

  • The colonial context in Ireland
  • An overview of Fanon and his significance to Ireland
  • The cost of colonialism – the psychological impact of being colonised (naming the problem)
  • Drawing on the grassroots language revival to unpack some of these issues – from the Shaws Road Gaeltacht to An Dream Dearg via Gaelscoileanna and political prisons

The discussion will be facilitated by Daire Ní Chanain, a Derry based journalist and broadcaster.
