Despite its façade of democracy far too many communities throughout the UK and Ireland are faced with the giant trio of oppression; Injustice, Inequality and Poverty.

Whilst some seminal campaigns, namely Bloody Sunday, Hillsborough & the Stephen Lawrence Campaign, have sought to hold the state to account, these ‘victories’ have not led to the kind of root and branch change in society that many expected.

This session provides an opportunity to explore our campaigning journeys together and prepare for the inevitable challenges ahead.  Any community that doesn’t have a vision for the future is bound to perish. Today we celebrate, honour and remember our radically differing backgrounds and experiences.

We end with a rallying call for us all to unite to build communities of solidarity and resistance and shape a new future where equality, peace and justice become prevalent in our societies.

Speakers include :

Joe Delaney, Grenfell Action Group & Justice4Grenfell, London

Becky Shah is a long standing campaigner with the Hillsborough Justice Campaign, Liverpool
She was only a young teenage girl and about to take her GCSE’s when she lost her mum, Inger Shah and her mum’s friend, Marian McCabe as a result of the Hillsborough Disaster on April 15th 1989.  Her 13 year old brother was a survivor from the terrible events that day and like Becky he remains deeply traumatised by what he experienced.

It is impossible to state in words the impact this devastating disaster and the subsequent fight for justice has had on all the families and survivors. Fighting for justice for my mum, friend, all the 96, my brother, my friends, survivors and the great city of Liverpool is by far the most important thing to me. “
